Planet vs. Plastics
Planet vs. Plastics was the theme presented by the University of Oxford for Earth Day 2024. A public event was hosted in the Physics Department, where I facilitated an arts and science based drop-in workshop. The activity invited participants to reconsider their relationship with single use plastics, by experimenting with plastic waste to create underwater seascapes. Pre-cut stamps depicting a variety of sea life and scientific equipment used for collecting data on the ocean, such as a CTD and everybody’s favourite Autosub, Boaty McBoatface, were available for participants to build up a diverse ocean ecology and reflect upon the impacts of plastic in these environments.
